Build 273 makes two unrelated fixes. At the largest text sizes, the navigation screen came apart. And sharing a place could, in two specific cases, hand over the wrong map or a broken file.
Build 273 went to TestFlight as part of the work on version 1.4. The version on the App Store is 1.3.
What broke at the largest text sizes
The App Store listing for ICIDO declares Larger Text as a supported accessibility feature. The largest sizes are reached in the iPhone's Settings, under Accessibility, Display & Text Size, Larger Text, by turning on Larger Accessibility Sizes and dragging the slider all the way right.
At the biggest of those sizes, three things on the navigation screen failed:
- The word "Navigating", shown beside the round buttons, broke in the middle of the word: "Navi-" on one line, "gating" on the next.
- The symbols inside the round buttons grew with the text, but the 40-point circles around them did not. The symbols spilled out of their circles and ran into each other.
- The mini-map's "tap to open map" hint grew to two lines over most of the map, and its fit-whole toggle outgrew its circle.
A row of its own
At the accessibility sizes, the status now gets its own full-width row above the buttons. That is the "Navigating" label or the route pill. On its own row it wraps between words, not inside one.
The round buttons now size the symbol and the circle together, so the circle grows with what is inside it. That growth stops at the xLarge text size, at about 44 points. The cap came from measuring. A cap one size higher, at 48 points, was tried: at xxxLarge, four buttons beside "Navigating" ran 12 points past the screen margins.
A cap means a symbol stops growing at some point. To cover that, every round button now supports the large content viewer. Touch and hold a round button, and its name appears in large type.
The mini-map's hint stays on one line, with its size capped, and so does its toggle. The floor menu's labelled capsule grows with its text and keeps a minimum height of 40 points.
The in-app Help, under Navigating, now describes both the separate row and the touch and hold.
What was checked, and what was not
The layout was checked in the iPhone 17 Pro Simulator, with the navigation display forced on and four buttons showing, at Large, xxxLarge, AX1 and AX5. At Large, the buttons are unchanged at 40 points.
Two things were not checked: the route pill during a live route, and the touch and hold itself, because the Simulator cannot take a screenshot in the middle of a press.
Two places called Kitchen
The second change is about sharing. A place exports to a single .spacemap file. Before this build, every export was written to the same temporary location, named after the place, and each export began by deleting whatever was already there. Share, Save to Files, backup, Back up this place and Publish as a code all used that path.
That caused three problems. Each was reproduced on a Mac against the old export code:
- Renaming and importing do not number duplicate names. So two places called "Kitchen", one scanned and one shared by someone else, wrote to the same file. A share sheet holding one place could end up holding the other place's map.
- If the same place was exported twice at once, for example a backup running while Share was open, the file handed over was cut short or missing about one time in ten: 34 and 31 times out of 300.
- A backup, deleting its own file after uploading, deleted the share sheet's file as well.
Every export in its own folder
Each export now gets a folder of its own, named with a unique id. The file inside keeps the place's name, so it still arrives as "Kitchen.spacemap" over AirDrop, Files or Messages. The file format is unchanged.
Run against the new code, the same collision test gave 0 out of 300.
A share sheet cannot clean up after itself when it closes, because it reports closing before AirDrop has finished reading the file. So share sheets never delete their export. Instead, each new export clears export folders more than an hour old.
Export 3D Model had the same name collision with its zip file. It also left an uncompressed copy of the model on the iPhone after every export, tens of megabytes for a big scan, until iOS cleared it away. Both are fixed the same way: the zip now sits alone in its own folder, and the working copy is removed once the zip exists.
AirDrop on a real device has not yet been verified. The Simulator has no AirDrop.
What a shared file carries
The fix sits next to an earlier one. Since build 270, a .spacemap file never carries the place's camera picture. That photo stays on the iPhone that took it. Taken together, the two changes mean a shared file holds the place that was chosen, and not its photo.
Written down as found
A label split mid-word still looks like a label, and a file named "Kitchen.spacemap" still looks like the right kitchen. For both fixes, the failure was measured or reproduced first, and the record says what was checked and what was not.
